The idea of the painting started as just a water nymph playing with fish. But then I thought of wisps. In European lore, the wisps are evil little rascals led people to their deaths or got them lost somewhere deep in the swampy areas. I felt I had to make my own interpretation of wisps. So a lonely water nymph decided to make the wisps to go out and bring souls to her little pool. What better creatures to change into wisps but the fish living with her. Who knows maybe the souls she collects become the fish.
